Potter Marsh
Potter Marsh is one of the most accessible and scenic wildlife viewing ares from Anchorage. It also provides a super stunning view overlook the Turnagain arm, Mountain over Kenai Peninsular.
It is also a bird lover and photographer paradise.
It located at the southern end of Anchorage, very starting point of going into Seward Highway. It is a protected wetland, the 2300-acre viewing area is just south of the city and has a long, raised 1550 foor boardwalk from which you may access the wetland without disturbing the birds or dirty your feet.
Potter Marsh hosts the greatest number of birds between late April and the end of May. Bald eagles, northern Harriers, yellowlegs, Arctic terns, pintails, Canada goose, red-necked grebes, and PAcific loons stay through the summer. Muskrats and moose frequent Potter Marsh year-round. You can also spot salmon swimming upstream to spawn in Rabbit Creek.
